Administrative Responsibilities

President, Middlesex Group - (1997 to Present) Consultants to Management in Business and Industry.  A collective of Senior Behavioral Consultants with offices in Andover, Beverly, Burlington, Concord and Lexington, Massachusetts.

A "holistic approach to systems" is taken to develop strategies that help assure organizational healthy and insure appropriate internal systems integration, problem solving (currently experienced or expected) - and individual health development.

Starting with the special needs of business executives (their spouse and their families - including marriage and family counseling when indicated) all the while helping them to "grow" their organizations and employees to be leaders in this rapidly changing world of technological innovation and international competition.

Associated with the Practice Sentry, LLC, an extensive organization which manages and markets a network of independent behavioral health and substance abuse providers.  This enables us to guide our clients to the best possible physical and mental health services in their community.

President, Middlesex Counseling Collaborative (1995-1997)
Collaborative of six senior behavioral scientists with offices in Burlington, MA (offering the same range of services as above).

Consultant for Personal and Business Issues, Andover, MA (1985-1995)
Executive Coaching, Evaluation, Selection and program development.  Individual counseling for personal, work, marriage and family issues.  (Executives who have their personal life under control and is in good order are able to devote appropriate attention to all areas of their lives.)

President, Harrington Institute for Psychological Services (1985-1995)
Development and Direction of the Institute which was a multi-specialty group organization, offering services across a wide spectrum of business and personal issues.   This consisted of six full-time staff professionals, full-time administrator and numerous consulting associates.

Partner, The Andover Group
Consultants to business in the 1970's.  Four senior behavioral practitioners working on various contracted assignments with Fortune 500 Companies.  A major project involved a four year reorganization of the Quality Control Division of Hoffman-LaRoache Drug Company in New Jersey and New York City.

Director of Field Work in Psychology and Sociology Placement and supervision of students in a wide variety of practicum settings.

Acting Assistant Superintendent - Bridgewater Institute for Juvenile Guidance (1970-71)
Special Assignment working with Massachusetts Governor Sargent's Special Commission to completely reorganize Youth Corrections System.  Frank Maloney, MSW was in charge of the entire system and appointed Dr. Harrington "Complete administrative responsibility" for his maximum security prison - staff, guards, youthful prisoners.

Community Services

Dr. Harrington has served on the Board of Directors of many community agencies and spoken on a variety of topics before hundreds of business and professional groups.  Amount his listings are "Who's Who in the East" and the National Directory of "Who's Who in Executives and Professionals".

Among the many issues that businesses and organizations must deal with are alcohol and drug abuse and the extensive damage caused by personal untreated stress (executive burn-out).

Dr. Harrington has had extensive experience setting up programs to deal with the treatment and prevention of these most costly problems:

*  Clinical Coordinator, Lawrence General Hospital Rehabilitation Center for Alcoholism - Evaluation of all patients and development of treatment programs and supervision of all professional staff.

*  Narcotic Act Rehabilitation Agency Consultant - Service available to all Federal Employees. Training involved spending a week in New York City studying major drug treatment programs including, Day-Top Village, Synanon, Odyssey House, the Morris Burnstein Institute, etc.

*  Project Director of the Joint Hospital (Lawrence General/Bon Secours/Holy Family) Community Drug Program.  Researched, wrote and submitted $800,000 proposal to Federal Drug Enforcement Agency for a community based, comprehensive treatment and prevention program.

*  Clinical Coordinator of the Greater Lawrence Community Drug Council (GLCDC), with a staff of eleven full-time employees.  Developed and implemented a hospital based walk-in clinic, thirty-five person residential treatment facility; four (4) community storefront counseling and outreach centers; chaired committee with four area school system Health Directors for school and community education and program referral.

*  Mediplex/Spofford Hall - Aftercare Coordinator - Organized and developed program for re-entering, stabilizing and continued follow up for alcohol and chemically dependent individuals who are treated through Mediplex's Residential Programs.

Clinical Hypnosis and Cognitive Behavior Modification

Dr. Harrington is an expert in the Clinical Hypnosis and Cognitive Behavior Modification field.  He authored a book titled, "Total Mind and Body Control Through Sensory Imagery." (One hundred page workbook for personal use - for self-help, or for teaching purposes.)  This book relates to the "minds" ability to treat many illnesses - for example, Cancer (Simonton Approach); numerous other symptoms such as alcohol and narcotic addiction; sexual dysfunction; phobias; anxieties; asthma and allergy; migraine headache; pain, etc. (Kroger & Fezler).

Development of an eight week program for stress control, conducted for a number of groups and companies.  Data available upon request.
